AMA Makes Big Upgrade to RVU Subscription Database

For years, and for a subscription of circa $300, you could access to an online AMA "RBRVS Data Manager," an online database for the RVU system.

For all CPT codes with RVU valuations, this database includes basic information (like office vs facility based RVUs), the most recent RUC evaluation and patient vignette, and data for practice expense components and utilization (in Medicare Part B only).  This was pretty useful for reimbursement experts but pretty dated looking (1980s style software).

Today's email brings news of a big update, and I can confirm that it's an A to Z software redesign.

I can't say the whole process is easy; you have to have an AMA account, and find the right subscription in the AMA online store, then buy it, then go to another portal to assign the subscription to yourself, and activate it, and then find the link for the RVU portal.   I confess I only manage this by having a trusty bookmark for the RVU portal, which is here after it's all set up:

The new interface is more modern looking, and tends to show much longer longitudinal data for things like RVU history and utilization history (e.g. the RVU value of 99213 office visit, backwards from today 2024 to 1992).

For genetic tests (like 81162 BRCA full sequence) or other CLFS tests, you don't get any physician or RVU fields, since they don't exist, but you do get an AMA code vignette and some claims data (utilization).  For example, in 2022, BRCA testing was 20% for prostate cancer (where it guides some drug choices).  For 81528 (Cologuard), 2022 utilization was 536,409 cases and 61.5% female and 0.5% over age 85.
