AMA CPT: Important Clarifications to Confidentiality Policy

At the February 5-6, 2026 AMA CPT meeting, the first couple hours are devoted to "new news" rather than code review.

There was an important discussion of new rules (or interpretations) of the confidentiality document.  I had noticed some revisions but didn't grasp the full meaning.

Basically, and I'm neither a lawyer nor a stenographer, these are my take-aways.

  • NO NO NO:  Recording and/or pictures or screen shots are strictly off limits.
  • But it is NOT  restricted to convey one's opinions of what was said at the meeting.
    • "The discussion of Tab 101 seemed to be favorable."
Here are some more points:
  • It IS restricted to quote anyone who spoke by name.
  • It IS restricted to convey any screenshots of any AMA CPT copyright text shown at the meeting.
  • It IS restricted to announce how the panel voted.
    • However, this is generally not possible because the panel votes silently and electronically on code measures.
    • It IS allowed to say "Panel discussion seemed favorable [unfavorable]" based on one's opinion as an attendee.
  • Some specific mini case studies were presented as examples of the above.
  • These topics were discussed in the first and administrative session on Thursday.
Summary of panel actions is posted a couple weeks after each editorial panel meeting.
