Very Brief Blog: New AMA CPT GSP Workgroup Meetings Continue (Aug 14, Aug 30)

AMA has a webpage for CPT workgroups, and the only active one is two subgroups that are  working on coding for genomic procedures.   Their next meetings will be August 14 and August 30.  I've clipped the link and the whole current webpage below.

Genomic Sequencing Procedures (GSP) Workgroup

The CPT Editorial Panel Tumor Genomics Testing Workgroup submitted a CCA proposing changes to the Genomic Sequencing Procedures and Other Molecular Multianalyte Assays section for consideration by the Panel at its February 2023 meeting. The Panel approved the proposed changes for publication in the 2024 CPT code set.

The workgroup is continuing to address issues in the GSP section, focusing on four issues:

  • Modification of code 81443 (genetic testing for severe inherited conditions …) and/or development of new code(s) to address current practice for Expanded Genetic Disease Carrier or Diagnostic Panel Testing
  • Development of a code(s) for Basic Genetic Disease (CFTR, FMR1, SMN1/2, HBB) Panel Testing
  • Development of a code(s) for Pan-Cancer Hereditary Cancer Panel Testing
  • Modification of code 81435 (hereditary colon cancer disorders (e.g., Lynch syndrome, PTEN hamartoma syndrome…) or development of new code(s) to better address current practice for Lynch Syndrome/Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) Panel Testing

These issues will be grouped into two subgroups. Subgroup A will address issues 1 and 2, while subgroup B will address issues 3 and 4. Zoom meetings will be held throughout the summer and fall with the intent of submitting any revisions or new codes by the Nov. 1, 2023, application deadline for consideration at the February 2024 CPT Editorial Panel meeting.

Each public call will allow for time at the end for stakeholder comments. We cannot guarantee that everyone will have time to speak during these open comment sections, but it is our intent to hear from all sides. Attendees must register for each call. Also, given the nature of the discussion, attendees will need to sign an AMA CPT Confidentiality form. DocuSign forms will be sent to attendees prior to the meeting. Attendees must fill out the forms prior to attending, otherwise they will not be allowed to join the call.
