Puzzling PAMA Pricing Data #1. Profiles of Six More Genetic Tests.

In several blogs we've gone past the median price discounts in various lab services.  We've actually profiled the range of  reported PAMA raw price information - the shape of the marketplace.

We showed that some codes, which have a right-sided isolated peak of high prices, can have as much as half of profit coming from those sky-high outliers. Here.

Here, we do price profiles for six additional genetic tests.  These are:

  • 81162, BRCA 1-2
  • 81432, BRCA Panel
  • 81241, Factor V (one of the most common genes)
  • 81412, Ashkenazi Carrier Panel
  • 81419, Epilepsy panel, a recent boom-code in FL, TX
  • 81443, Pan-ethnic carrier panel
Profiles are based on actual observed PAMA medians, that is, what would be fully-phased in prices.
Figures, click to enlarge.
I don't know why the profiles vary so much, but it's like snowflakes, no two alike.
